Explore the origins of the chili pepper with this panel discussion moderated by Jocelyn Ramirez of Across Our Kitchen Tables/Todo Verde and cross-cultural cooking demo and tasting led by Valeria Velazquez Dueñas of Across Our Kitchen Tables/Cocina House, Nesanet Abegaze of Azla Vegan, and Jess Wang of Picklé. Followa brief historyof the chili pepper from its Meso and South American origins to its immersion in global culinary cultures. Learn about the chili pepper’s impact on the facilitators' cultural foodways and cooking as they bring Mexican, Ethiopian, and Chinese cuisines together through shared, ancestral affinity to this alluring fruit; all in a spirit of decoloniality, conviviality, and solidarity.
Across our Kitchen Tables (AOKT) is a culinary hub and event series centering self-identified women and gender-non-conforming people of color both in person and over social media platforms. AOKT provides a safe space for knowledge exchange on entrepreneurship, culinary practices, food centered organizations, and food ecosystems. The AOKT community generates and supports thriving and socially conscious food-based work. AOKT is organized by co-founders Valeria Velazquez Duenas, Claudia Serrato and Jocelyn Ramirez.
