FLEX is a dance theater work in search of the Filipino American narrative. Dedicated to Jay Carlon’s father Honorio Carlon, an agricultural migrant worker who immigrated to California from the Philippines during the Great Depression for a better life and lived an untold American narrative. Originally premiered February, 2019 at L.A. Dance Project Studios.

Jay Carlon is a contemporary choreographer based in Highland Park. His highly physical work is focused in experimental, site-sensitive dance theatre, and is inspired by his background as a competitive wrestler while growing up the youngest of 12 in a Filipino, Catholic, agricultural migrant-working family. In 2016, he started a multidisciplinary dance group called CARLON. For more information, visit www.jaycarlon.com.

This program is made possible by the Remsen Bird Fund and the Arts and Urban Experience Initiative, which is generously funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
