Kenturah Davis is joined by Ian F. Blair, editor-in-chief of the L.A. Times Image magazine, for a conversation on the artist’s practice and current solo exhibition at OXY ARTS. The pair will explore a range of themes related to Davis' body of work that build off their conversation from Issue 2 of Image magazine in May of 2021.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS

Ian F. Blair

Ian F. Blair is the editor in chief of Image, the Los Angeles Times’ style, culture and fashion magazine. Before joining The Times in 2020, he was the deputy managing editor of Bleacher Report’s B/R Mag, its longform, premium storytelling platform. Before Bleacher Report, he was an editor and producer at the New Yorker. Prior to that, he was an assistant editor at Salon. His work has appeared in the New Yorker, the Nation, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Ssense, HyperAllergic, Guernica and Ebony, among other publications.

Kenturah Davis

Kenturah Davis is an artist working between Los Angeles and Accra (Ghana). Her work oscillates between various facets of portraiture and design. Using text as a point of departure, she explores the fundamental role that language has in shaping how we understand ourselves and the world around us. This manifests in a variety of forms including drawings, textiles and objects. Her work is in several institutional collections and has been included in exhibitions internationally. She has also been a contributing writer for publications including the LA Times and Brooklyn Rail. She currently teaches at Occidental College in the Art and Art History department. Davis earned her BA from Occidental College and MFA Yale University School of Art.
