OXY ARTS, 4757 York Blvd. LA CA 90042
Join us for a 4-part FREE art-making workshop series. We will be creating projects inspired by our current exhibition, Fotos y Recuerdos: Guatemala in Los Ángeles, curated by Michelle Montenegro in partnership with Las Fotos Project. The exhibition explores themes of preservation and the importance of archival practices, through the lens of the Guatemalan diaspora in LA.
This is a free event series and all supplies are provided by OXY ARTS. No registration required.
June 20: Make Your Own Heirloom Charm
In this workshop, we will be working with polymer clay and shrink film to create our own heirloom charms. We will begin with a warmup activity, followed by a quick demo, and finish with lots of time for art-making and community. Come with an open heart and leave with lots of art!
June 27: PRIDE Art Workshop: Personalize Your Clothes
RSVP is not required, however we encourage you to fill out our interest and submission form found here.
Inspired by the custom jerseys by Oz Vicious in the exhibition, we will use iron-on sheets, paint, and markers to create our own original t-shirt designs. This workshop will explore themes of self expression during Pride month.
July 4: CLOSED for the 4th of July holiday
July 11: Make Your Own Recuerdo Scrapbook
Learn basic book-making techniques, inspired by the photo albums feature in the exhibition. We will have a wide range of materials to decorate and customize your own scrapbook.
July 18: Collage Night!
In this workshop we will learn about collaging methods, explore themes of community preservation, and have the chance to print original photos in the gallery. Bring in your recuerdos scrapbook from the July 11 workshops, or we will provide sketchbooks to new participants.
