During summer 2020 Oxy Arts forged a partnership with In Plain Sight—a coalition of 80 artists and activists dedicated to ending inhumane immigration policies in America.
In Plain Sight launched during Independence Day weekend with a masterfully orchestrated four-day stretch of sky typing over 80 detention centers across the nation. The project extends beyond this weekend into the summer and fall 2020 with ongoing actions and forthcoming arts-related education and engagement programming.
Our support of In Plain Sight, as a lead project partner, will expand into the fall with a group exhibition at Oxy Arts, adjacent programming, and curricular integration to further amplify and support the urgent call for immigrant justice and carceral abolition. As beneficiaries of institutional privilege and resources, we have an obligation to identify and actively support and amplify the practices of artists and organizers doing the hard work of bringing attention to problematic structural systems in our society.
Visit xmap.us to learn more about the 80 artists, network of community partners and actions you can take to help end inhumane immigration policies.
