Join us to celebrate the new mural at Yorkdale Elementary, painted by Yorkdale + Oxy students and the local community! The mural blessing will include a ceremony led by Restorative Justice for the Arts, snacks, music and more.
Over summer 2022, Yorkdale Elementary, Restorative Justice for the Arts and Oxy Arts collaborated to create a new mural on the Yorkdale Elementary Campus. For the past two years, Oxy Arts has held an after school art class at Yorkdale Elementary through our Community Studio program. During the 2021 - 2022 academic year, students in the Yorkdale afterschool art class learned about local murals and created their own designs inspired by the local architecture, plants and murals in their neighborhood. Lead artists Nana and Ina Villanueva took these designs and created a mural design for the campus. Yorkdale students, Oxy students and community members gathered during July 2022 to collaboratively paint the mural.
